At this moment,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/chains\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">there are about 237 chains operating<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/capital.com\/how-many-different-cryptocurrencies-are-there\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over 20,200 tokens in circulation<\/a>&nbsp;(and Rubic supports over 15,500 of those tokens!). This drives the need for enhanced interoperability amongst all of them and to make the assets available cross-chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3828\">Developers spend weeks and months making their dApps interoperable across chains, researching and integrating cross-chain bridges, non-EVMs, Layer 2 and Layer 1 networks that are not unified. Most commonly, integration of one of them is not enough to gain interoperability on all levels. Thus, projects have to seek further integration, seeking an all-in-one solution so as to become fully cross-chain. Simply put, bridges allow users to transfer their assets from one network to another. Bridges, however, do not move assets between chains, they link assets on one network to their representations (i.e. wrapped versions) of assets on another network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"424a\">Bridges move the same assets between two blockchains in a paired manner, for example \u2014 USDC (ERC-20) into USDC (BEP-20).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"9bd5\">Bridges were the first solutions for cross-chain transfers, yet with significant detriments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Low security: As evidenced,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.chainalysis.com\/reports\/cross-chain-bridge-hacks-2022\/#:~:text=Following%20last%20night's%20exploit%20of,stolen%20in%202022%20so%20far.\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">attacks on bridges account for 69% of total funds stolen in 2022<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The excessive amount of time spent on a swap: Several minutes and numerous actions needed to perform one swap.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One bridge is never enough to scale up.
